Collage with Highlighting Paper, Textiles & Rust
Host: Betsy ParÉ [The Paper Arts Studio]
Best will help you explore untraditional methods to achieve “Out of the Box” collages. In this workshop there will be individualized hand on instruction in a variety of mixed media components and finishing techniques that students will use to create a unique Collage. Betsy will cover design concepts – color choices and the application of embellishments.
This class is open to students of ALL levels. Specifically, students will work with hand crafted papers, a variety of fabrics & textiles and learn the basics of artistically created faux rusted elements and how to incorporate traditional rusted pieces as well. New to many of the participants will be learning to alter and age paper, use natural dyes on vintage & new fabrics, and then incorporate a softened appeal through slow stitching. Finally, you will incorporate the antiquing and aging processes to create stunning finished pieces.
One of the Explanations often heard about Collage Is: To cut, arrange and rearrange items to create a piece of art that is more interesting than the sum of its parts. Betsy guarantees students will successfully accomplish this.
What to bring: If you have a favorite pair of scissors bring them. An apron is a good idea as well as rubber gloves. There will be a 1/2-hour lunch break at some point, so bring snacks or a bagged lunch. Water is provided.

About Betsy
Collage has always been a perennial favorite of Betsy's. Mixing and matching a variety of papers, fabrics and ephemera and adding found objects to create new artwork, is extremely satisfying. That said it can be humbling...
