Artist Statement

Expressing nature and the world I have traveled has become a challenge that has been a part of my life for over 40 years. I want to create an unexpected view in my watercolor paintings. To do this I have taken many classes from well-known artists and taken thousands of photos. I have experimented predominately in water media but have also done pastels. I truly enjoy the learning process and think of myself as a groupie. Being with other artists provides a stimulus to experiment. I enjoy the sharing of trials and successes, of new materials and resources and the fellowship. I especially enjoy critique from fellow artists which gives me a better perspective of my work.

I am fortunate to participate with a group of plein air artists in Crested Butte, CO, in the summer. We met 25 years ago while taking classes from Dallas Artist Jane Jones. Our group has now become part of the Colorado Water Color Society where I am a signature member. Other artists that have been an inspiration are Frank Francese, Tom Lynch, Judy Patti, Steve Quiller, Frank Webb and Eric Weingard. Currently I am a student of Lori Coue and Randy Hale. None of this would have been possible without the encouragement from my in-laws who loved taking classes in watercolor. I have their supplies of pastels and brushes to this day.

In addition to participating in the Verdes Art League, I am a past board member of the Center for the Arts in Crested Butte, CO. I continue to raise funds for our new facility which has both a classroom and gallery for artists. I am involved with bringing artists for workshops to our community. I participate in Colorado Water Color Society events and the Center for the Arts in Evergreen, Co.
