I have always been in love with art and, for me, it takes many forms. I have found over the years an appreciation for all the ways art is expressed in daily life, not just in the studio and art gallery. I feel that I use my creativity in gardening, sewing, decorating my home as well as attempting to make beautiful art to hang on the wall. I am much better at the first three!
My early art background consists of college courses that led to a minor in art. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to really focus on one particular medium enough to know what I really wanted to pursue in more depth. After graduating, I was too busy with family and work so it wasn’t until my daughters left home that I picked up a paint brush to try my hand at watercolors because it seemed so easy. Not so!!! I moved quickly on to acrylics.
Since that “aha” moment I have taken a few classes here and there, picking up some great information along the way. Looking back, the one that really helped me the most was a junior college beginning painting class that was a quarter long. It wasn’t until we came to Tonto Verde and I joined Verdes Art League and started boot camp with Eddie Lopez that I painted anything I felt I could display. I now prefer painting with oils and especially love painting from photos taken on our trip to Peru. I would really love to try every type of art that is offered here but there are just too many fun things to do in the Verdes!
