I’ve always loved art. One of the best Christmases I ever had was when my parents bought me a box of 124 crayons with a sharpener and two reams of drawing paper...white and manila.  I grew up in Pell Lake, Wisconsin. My brother and I went to a four room grade school next to a dairy farm.  There were thirteen in my graduating class.  High school was a big change, Badger High School, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, class of 1966. I graduated most outstanding student of the class for the design and production of all eight high school plays. I had four straight ”A“ years of art classes at Badger, which led to an Art education major at Wisconsin State University, Oshkosh.

My first teaching job was in Cicero, Illinois, for seven years before raising a family of three.  Being a stay at home mom didn’t last long and I returned as a sub at several schools before being offered a position at Lemont High School in Lemont, Illinois, where we reside.  There I thrived and found my passion for teaching art: ceramics, painting, drawing, printmaking, computer graphics and film editing.  I love high school students and enjoyed a full and enriching career.

In 2010 I retired to enjoy some travel time with my husband.  My husband’s cousin has a place in Rio Verde and invited us down for a visit. She told me how wonderful the area was and full of art.  All this was hard to believe.  I’m a believer now!  The Verdes Art League has some of the most talented, genuine people who share their talents and ideas.  I look forward to coming and renewing friendships at draw studio, taking classes, teaching classes and joining in on all the activities that are offered.  Oh how I miss them...people who talk art!

As far as the art I do…I believe that a painting should show the freedom of the brush and colors, not to copy exactly, but to interpret what you see or feel. My works are more impressionistic and a bit abstract.  Art is my happy place. When I’m working on a drawing or painting I am transported to another world.  In this crazy world we live in sometimes we need to escape.  I love to paint in oils, draw in colored pencils, play in clay.  This year I hope to try doing some linoleum cuts.  Hope to meet all of you again soon.  Hopefully 2021 will be a better year for all of us.
